Fight Allergies with NORM's Spirulina Freakshake

February 16, 2022

NORM Spirulina Freakshake in a cocktail glass

We are making a name for ourselves at NORM by bringing you weird, freeze dried meal toppers you can’t get anywhere else, but what’s the go with our signature Spirulina Freakshake?

It’s not so much a meal topper as it is a nutritious milkshake mix, made from powdered freeze-dried Australian chicken hearts, raw goats milk powder and green spirulina.

Have you ever seen anything like this for dogs?! Take note folks, you saw it here first.

The whole idea behind NORM is that we wanted to create something truly unique for you and your puppers (and kitties), and to offer fun options that aren’t available at every other treat shop. Enter the FREEEEEAKSHAAAAKE!

It is undeniably fun, weird and unique but, importantly, it’s also genuinely good for them. Formulated with a pet nutritionist, we have created an easy and delicious way for you to keep your pets hydrated while adding extra nutrients, antioxidants and gut health benefits to their diet.

Our green freakshake contains absolutely nothing but freeze dried, human grade, Australian chicken hearts, raw goat milk powder and green spirulina. There is no filler and no crap.

We chose chicken hearts because chicken is so wildly popular with so many of our dog and cat friends, but also because they are loaded with lean protein, vitamin B12, iron, zinc & copper. They are also very rich in taurine, which is an essential amino acid for cats and kittens.

We blend the hearts with raw goat's milk because it is both prebiotic and probiotic for gut health. This means that our freakshake provides good bacteria (probiotics) that is essential for good digestion, nutrient absorption, immune system health and supporting the gut-brain axis for good doggy mental health.

But adding probiotics alone is only half the battle; raw goats’ milk also contains PREbiotics, which are the food these friendly bacteria need to stay strong, grow and multiply to maintain the health of the gut long term. Without prebiotics there are no probiotics.

Finally, the hero of NORM’s first freakshake is green spirulina. Spirulina is often referred to as a blue-green algae, but it’s actually a cyanobacterium, which is technically aprokaryote – or a single cell organism without a nucleus. How cool is science?

But that’s just the tip. Spirulina is thought by some to be the most nutrient dense food on the PLANET by weight, thanks to its high protein content, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, B vitamins and the presence of minerals like iron and copper. And it contains no cellulose, which means it’s easily digested, and the nutrients are highly bioavailable.

Spirulina also contains high amounts of the compound phycocyanin, which gives it its antioxidant properties. Antioxidants fight free radical damage and protect the body from oxidative stress, which can otherwise lead to all types of diseases. Studies have shown promising results that suggest spirulina has anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as therapeutic benefits for animals with diabetes.

Perhaps most exciting for dogs who suffer from itchiness, skin conditions, food intolerances, seasonal allergies or other sensitivities, spirulina can inhibit the release of histamines from mast cells. Histamines are released when a potential allergen is detected, so preventing their release can go far in helping to manage allergies.

Did we mention it’s delicious? Dogs and cats alike are going absolutely loopy for our freakshakes, so if you want to add hydration with a serious nutrient boost with gut health benefits and immune system superpowers, that your pets with absolutely LOVE, you have come to the right place.

Shop our signature Spirulina Freakshake today and make it extra with a garnish of freeze dried Ox Spleen or Pork Testes meal topper.
