Summertime hydration for hot & fussy weirdos

Summertime hydration for hot & fussy weirdos

Norm Wild

Hot days, clanging bowls, big flops and loud sighs…sounds like summer’s doing the absolute most. Water goes warm in five minutes and your dog can’t see to haul themselves up off the tiles for a drink.

Here are our summer-proof and Norm-approved ways to turn freakshakes into hydration bombs or fun enrichment for days when it’s too hot to go walkies.

Norm Drippy Tracheas

Add kefir to Norm, drip it over tracheas, stuff and freeze to sneak in some chewy hydration. (Recipe by @hunde.au)

Ingredients:

  • Kefir
  • Norm
  • Dried Tracheas

Recipe:

  1. Mix kefir with Norm until you achieve your desired colour.
  2. Stand the tracheas in a jar and drip the coloured kefir down the top edge, then freeze while still standing upright in the jar.
  3. Stuff with your fave food and then refreeze until serving as a meal or a treat.

Norm Boba Tea

Mix Norm with gelatine, chill and serve for a squishy and busy summer treat. (Recipe by @diningwithdinah)

Ingredients:

  • Two Norm Freakshakes
  • 4 teaspoons of gelatine powder
  • 500ml water (or another clear liquid your dog loves)

Recipe:

  1. Prepare 2 cups of the Freakshakes you chose, according to the directions.
  2. Set aside one cup of Norm for the boba and one for the tea.
  3. Bloom the gelatine by adding it to a bowl with two tablespoons of cold water and stirring vigorously with a fork, then set aside for a minute.
  4. Melt the bloomed gelatine in the microwave in 10 sec increments until fully dissolved, then cool slightly.
  5. Add the melted gelatine to the cup of Norm for your boba, mix until fully combined and then pour into the sphere moulds.
  6. Refrigerate the balls overnight and then pop out and into a clear vessel.
  7. Pour the Norm “tea” over the boba and voila!

Norm Cream

Freeze Norm, fruit and yogurt for an instant creamy and colourful flavour bomb to cool ‘em down.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 1-2 tbsp Norm (or until desired colour is achieved)

Recipe:

  1. Combine the banana and yogurt in a food processor until very smooth (or mash with a fork if you have strong muscles).
  2. Add your Norm and stir until you get the desired colour.
  3. Use immediately or portion and freeze.
  4. Soften before serving and give it another whiz with your whizzy guy if you want to fluff it back up.

PS: You can also serve as ice blocks on a hot summer’s day!

Summer’s charging, 2026 is already insane. We’re doing frozen, drippy, colourful nonsense to distract ourselves and bring back a bit of whimsy, ya know?
